Obsession has a Price!
It’s becoming alarmingly common to hear about young individuals collapsing in the gym, many of them seemingly healthy and regular visitors.
These incidents are tragic and deeply unsettling, given that the gyms are supposed to get people stronger and increase their life expectancy.
The causes may vary: underlying congenital heart conditions, undiagnosed hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (a disease of heart muscle), an unconditioned body, over exertion - also not ruling out the possible role of Covid-19 or its vaccines.
But what is more intriguing is that so many “giants” - the largest and strongest - leave us too soon, year after year?
Bodybuilders and powerlifters don’t die by chance. In the real world, that very obsession that relentlessly drives these men to substantially exceed the bulk that they were genetically programmed to be - makes them vulnerable to stroke, heart attack, diabetes, kidney disease and so on.
An overdose of supplements coupled with consuming 7,000 to 9,000 calories per day, only fuels the risk of an early death.
Tragically, many of them take these risks knowingly - trading an all-consuming passion for a shortened life.
